and officers apparently spotted the teen and identified him as a suspect in a previous robry. not the robbery today. when they tried to approach him, he plead, prompting this massive search effort in a residential area here along bascom avenue. the search did include the use of a santa clara county sheriff helicopter. and has diminished somewhat. there were dozens of car that's lined this bridge. the search is still taking place, so far, they have not captured their suspect n san jose abc 7 news. >> and now police are searching for vandals who used a laurjing device. investigators released this photo of a car leaving the scene, cars and mailboxes were

damaged. nine incidents have been reported. saturday, between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. sa. bc 7 is live with the follow up. laura? >> i'm at vineyard high school. you can see where two windows were smashed and rocked launched over the weekend. police believe these attacks were random and dangerous. >> this is no prank to this young mother. in the middle of the night a rock crashed through the window of her baby daughter's bedroom, narrowly missing the crib and embedding into the wall about 20 feet from the window. luckily they weren't home at the time. >> this went almost went through laundry room wall and covered glass all over my daughter's room, she's really young. and her crib just had a blinkit of glass in it police believe this is just one example of what happened at nine locations where vandals

used some kind of launcher to propel the rocks into homes, mailboxes and cars. and windows and there are so many barriers. dual payne windows going 20 feet into a wall, and going at that speed they're lucky they didn't hit a person. >> detectives released this video showing a car that may be linked to vandalism. it's a white suv or station wagon that drove by after they drove past this mailbox we heard someone talking about it, then, they'll call us. the severity of the actions we want to hold accountable for damage they did to the property. >> and i hope they get caught and what they deserve. because i just hope i never come across them because this is my daughter. this is my house, i'm not

officers, protesters had to park and walk. no one was able to get close. and correctional officers stood behind the gate. still, hundreds gathered to talk about how the prison system failed many. dan segal is a well known attorney in oakland standing behind the movement. >> california african americans are less than 10% of the population now. yet, 50% of those in prison. 50% of those on death row. >> these brought the prison rights movement and occupy oakland together standing with those inside. together they vowed to push for reforms within the prison system. >> prison should not be a place to be abused and exploited. to be tortured that. is not what prison should be

that. should change. >> among speakers were three hikers imprisoned in iran. they joined the movement. >> occupy movement will be beginning to gain strength when people on the outside are helping to bring about changes on the inside. >> while this was going on, san quentin was on lock down. prisoners kept in cells. a police chase through three counties ended this afternoon. the suspects tried to get way on foot this, began near livermore. the highway patrol troll spotted a pickup truck. police say the men threw a gun out of the window and the chase went south and then north, and never exceeded a speed limit. >> parties stayed in the further right lanes between 60 and 65 miles per hour. and and due to light traffic we let it go ahead.

>> and watch this, this guy jumps out and tried to make a run for it. and police caught all four of them near the ikea shopping center. >> berkeley police now acknowledge they did not initially respond to reports of a crime that turned into a murder. the victim was beaten to death outside of his home saturday night. neighbors identified him as a 67-year-old chemical engineer. police confirmed they did not respond to the first call because they committed a good portion of the officers for security for an anticipated march. police say they did send an officer to the march after a follow up call came in about an attack there. police have a suspect in custody. >> and an oakland police officer son leave tonight while detectives look into why he shot an armed robbery suspect in east oakland overnight. a passenger ran from the car. the driver got waiflt the

officer chased a passenger and opened fire when he saw he was armed. police confirmed the man never fired a gun of they not said what prompted the officer to shoot. procedures require the investigation be turned over to internal affairs. >> petaluma hit by a rampage. half a dozen homes were targeted and a school covered wall to wall with tags. there is a city with more than its share of graffiti. >> this is 98% of it out. >> police call him the graffiti vigilante. he's a 74-year-old retired cpa who volunteered his time cleaning up graffiti in the city 40 years. he is the one police called to clean up the graffiti. >> it's one of the worst ones we've seen. there is the whole area graffitied between friday night and saturday morning. >> most tags too graphic to

all right. here is the newly belt section of the bay bridge open for business now thanks to good weather and this is a detour you'll have to use that is a gentle s surf leading to upper deck. traffic light this morning because of the president's day holiday. and caltrans predicts there will be no problem tomorrow when traffic returns. now, you can see sluggish traffic approaching and leading to the bridge. many drivers returning home for a long gaet way weekend perhaps, bart reports it carried 40-50,000 extra passengers during the bridge

>> here a neighbor tried to wedge his side of the fence against that weight. >> the city should be ashamed of itself. anyone to do something about this. >> we did digging and found out this house still belongs to robert and betsy baker on paper but state records show they died in twut. the bakers lived with their son, richard. neighbors say richard piled each truck and bike here one at a time over 40 years. this is too much for polenti. >> crazy. >> neighbors describe the 58-year-old richard as he can sen trick and volatile. he hasn't been seen for months and it's not unusual but they worry when he disappears he might be dead in the house. so we called the fire department about that and they brought the sheriff and everybody went in. not an easy tas ook we had

deputies inside of the house. and the house was full of debris, boxes piled up to the keeling and stuff like that. that kind of made it difficult it wasn't the first time they'd been there for a welfare check and there was no sign of bake year kids call it the spooky house. you know? and people throw stuff there too, you know? >> how did it get like this? neighbors say it got worse after baker's parents died going from untidy to out of control. and we worked our way through a maze of agencies. and not one is taking responsibility. we got referred again and again to santa clara county code enforcement, another dead end. >> we're looking to try to change someone's behavior. this time, what i can tell you is that we don't valentine tools to change people's behaviors for certain people like mr. baker. >> code inskbrorkts visited 20 times in five years.

and took baker to court. and when a 100 a day fine went to collections baker ignored officials. that is it. code enforcement manager says unless a property owner is willing to change his office can't force them to. and it is not a safety issue. >> it's a touchy subject. it's property rights, it's personal life style issues. that is why i said earlier we're talking the county has minimum standards not ta say we don't care but we're not trying to tell people how to live their lives. >> we decided to try one last avenue, taking a neighbor's complaints to a supervisor. >> the buck stop was meechl i can't blame anyone else. you can blame me. buck stops right here with me. i'm the last on the list. you don't have to go past me he told me county staff will

try to address mental health issues if he can find richard baker. after questions last week the supervisor contacted the fire marshal declaring it unsafe. the case is now with the county council. next step, finally, a clean up. >> how long will it take? >> i don't know. as soon as the -- the sooner the better. i can't direct the staff but the next couple months i would say we should have action. >> there you have it. the supervisor says the home will be cleaned up in about two months. you know we'll be watching. and tax records say someone kept paying property taxes but stopped in 2009. and add to that the unpaid fines and now, you have the county's attention. tomorrow night there is a major graffiti problem, taking neighbor complaints to the police. >> should be an interesting
